SOUTH LYON AREA PUMPKINFEST OFFICALLY CANCELS 2020 EVENT
July 6, 2020
SOUTH LYON, MI
The South Lyon Area Pumpkinfest’s Board of Directors, in agreement with the City of South Lyon, the South Lyon Police Department, and the South Lyon Fire Department, will cancel the annual festival due to health and safety concerns around COVID-19.
Like nearly all other local, public festivals and events, Pumpkinfest’s organizers and City officials were concerned about how to promote safety protocols, such as social distancing and face masks. Additionally, without knowing what September may look like in South Lyon, there were just too many open questions.
"The Board, the City, and South Lyon’s Police and Fire Departments made every effort to think through creative ways to hold the 36th annual festival, but in the end we couldn’t justify holding the event because of the unknowns. It just came down to safety and protecting the public" said Kathy Swan, President of Pumpkinfest’s Board of Directors.
Ms.Swan shared that the decision was difficult to make, adding "We know that people will be disappointed – we are, too. We look forward to seeing everyone downtown in 2021!"
